Our Doggy Day Trip Service
We treat our Pooch Pack dogs with the highest level of care, they become a part of our family. Our mission is for them to have a great day with exercise, stimulation, fun and learning.
Our Trips...
While you're at work or away from home (or even while you are home) your pooch can get bored and restless. Sending them on a Doggy Day Trip is a great alternative that stimulates the mind, stretches the legs, and can improve overall behaviour. Then, when you get home at night, you and your pooch can relax together!
The whole idea is for your dog to have an adventure. A walk for a dog is very special and it's their wild nature to roam and explore. Our trips combine structured walking as a pack, free time to play and satisfy the need to explore new places. These trips are designed to provide exercise, socialisation, mental stimulation and excitement for your pooch, with the added benefits of learning to work as a pack, exploring new territories and receiving close human attention.
Our Doggy Day Trips take about 3 hours, in that time your pooch gets a car ride and a minimum of 2 hours exercise. This includes some on-lead walking if required, and heaps of off-lead exploring and time to play. Pooches come home feeling relaxed and content, and look forward to a quiet night in when their humans get home. The service includes pick up and drop off from your home, whether you are home or at work. Sometimes, the trip will be even longer if our destination is further away!
The trip destination will vary depending on the pack, if they are all water lovers we’d spend a lot of time in the river, if they are explorers we’d find exciting new places to roam, if they are super social we'll hangout at busy parks, or quieter parks for the pooches who need to practice socialising, and when time allows we could even go to the beach!
Prelim Visit...
It's important that we get to know every dog, so we can be sure to keep them as safe as possible. This is why we do a house call for every pooch prior to going on their first trip, at no charge. This helps us place your dog in the appropriate pack, learn their behaviours or special requirements and understand your preferences.
We also need to know how to get onto your property if you aren't home, and your pooch gets to know us while you're home so they aren't as defensive or stressed when we come to pick them up.
This visit is also a chance to answer any queries you may have, and to plan out your schedule, based on your preferences and the pack(s) that would best suit your dog.
The Pack...
Pack walking takes them back to their roots.. remember how to dog, it's all about moving as a team and exploring and sniffing and covering lots of spaces.
We aim for a 1:4 or 1:6 human:dog ratio, depending on the dogs. A pack of 4-6 is big enough to be a pack but a lot safer than large packs. Our aim is for your dog to get the attention they need.
We cater to the needs of the whole pack. If your dog needs to 'take it easy' we are mindful of that and look after them. We move as a pack, no dog left behind!
Dogs are introduced in a way that promotes minimum-stress and we ensure a good fit between behaviour types and breeds.
Developing a regular pack means we can move on from the “ice breaker” period and really enjoy the trip, with more off-lead time as they learn to move together. (while packs will be regular, your dog will get to meet other dogs as schedules overlap, and we meet other dogs in public).
Pooch Safety
For the dog's safety and your peace of mind, we wouldn't let a new dog off the lead until we are confident they are happy within the pack, although they are usually off lead on within their first day. We also pay high attention for possible hazards, and watch dog behaviour closely while in public.
The Destinations...
We're based in Hamilton, NZ and travel in and around the city to a multitude if locations. The trip destinations and timings will largely depend on the pick up route, the weather and the pack.
Locations include all of the great dog parks Hamilton has to offer, and could on occasion include Raglan beach and other dog friendly areas in our region.
Days park is the ultimate playground for dogs, so many sniffs to sniff, plenty of room to play, beach's to run on and fresh water to cool down in.
Resthills and Minogue are just a couple of our favourite parks, there's a high chance your pooch could come home covered in mud when its wet! We give them a good towel down but you may find bath time becomes more regular! We also love going to the beach but this is a sometimes trip as it becomes a very big day for the pooches.
Depending on time, trips could include multiple locations to really mix things up for the pack.
Other Services...
We're a small and personalised business, so we have 'room to move' when it comes to offering our services. If you have specific preferences, let's talk about how we can help you.
The pack walking experience includes recall training, if your dog requires it.
We can't guarantee your pooch won't get dirty in having all the fun, but if they get really dirty we’ll give them a quick clean-down. If you’d like your dog to be extra clean, we offer a bath service too!
We can also help with extra-curricular things like taking your pooch to the vet, helping with medicine administration or feeding while you are away.
Road trippers can bring their dogs too! If you're passing through Hamilton, and need your dog minded while you're off doing human stuff, we can do a one-off trip for your pooch.
